Congratulations to our 8u Tourney team coached by Jeff Steigerwald. After starting off the tourney season with a couple of runner-up finishes, the team has a new streak to be proud of….Back to Back championships! After winning at McCandless a couple of weeks ago, the team kept it going this past weekend at Pine Richland. And again….for most of the tournament, Defense was the key to the team bringing home their second 1st place trophy. The team finished pool play as the #1 seed by defeating Peters Township (7-2) and Fox Chapel (6-1). The defense kept it going during elimination play by winning in the quarterfinals against Avonworth (6-1) and then against Pine Richland – White (7-3) in the semis. The semi win set up a rematch against Pine Richland – Grey in the championship game. They were the team’s opponent in the McCandless championship where our boys scrapped out a 9-7 victory. However, the rematch turned out to be no contest as the defense shone brightly again and the bats woke up in a big way and Shaler cruised to a 17-1 win. They say defense wins championships and this team is proving that mantra true – having surrendered only 8 runs in 5 games during the tourney.
