We are rescheduling the 7 and 8 yr old Tourney tryouts for this Wednesday at Crawshaw from 5:45pm - 7:15pm for the 7s and 7:15pm - 9:00pm for the 8s. Please be there 15 minutes before hand to warm up. We realize that this is a school night and want to be done as close to 9 as possible. That means we have to be diligent in running our drills and keep our timing to make sure that a fair evaluation can be completed. Thank you for your understanding.
We also wanted to let you know that the 10 year old tryouts will be this coming Saturday from 4:00pm to 6:30pm at Farrell. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to warmup.
We are still confirming a time and day for the 9u tryouts and will email that info as soon as possible.
As always, we encourage all kids to come try out as we like to field multiple teams at each age group if possible. The more tourney games and reps the kids get, the better they become. Tournament play is an awesome experience. Two teams at each age group would be ideal for the league.
Due to the rain today and the rain expected through the night, we are going to postpone the 7u/8u Tourney tryouts tomorrow. The field will not be playable. We are going to try and have the first tryout this week, most likely Thursday or Friday. We will communicate a new time once we verify which fields will be available.
Just a reminder that this Sunday will be the 1st Tournament Team tryout for those players who will be playing Instructional baseball this coming Spring. The 7u tryout will be held at Crawshaw Field (Kiwanis) from 9am to 11am. The 8u tryout will be held at Crawshaw from 11am to 1pm. As written in our tournament team guidelines, a player is expected to attend at least one of the two Sunday tryouts (next one is Oct 15th) in order to be considered for the tournament team. Players should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to start time in order to warm up. It is going to be chilly/cool so please have them dress appropriately. They should bring a glove, a bat and a drink for short breaks.
The area is expected to get some rain from Hurricane Ian on the weekend. If the field is unplayable, we will send an email in the morning to relay any cancellations.
If you have any questions that cannot be answered in the attached guidelines, please reach out to Jeff Steigerwald (email@example.com) or Ritch Rupert (firstname.lastname@example.org).
It's that time of year where we elect our Executive Board positions (Pres, VP, Treasurer, Secretary) for the league. Since we are non-profit, our league year begins on November 1st. If you are interested in running for one of these positions, you need to let Dan LaGamba (current league Secretary) know by next Friday, Sept 19th, so that we can plan the public Board meeting for elections in October. Dan's email address is email@example.com. Anyone who is a member in good standing from the Spring 2022 (paid registration) season is eligible to run for one of these positions.
If you are interested in getting involved but not at the Executive board level, we have other Board appointed positions with voting privileges. These positions include:
Website / Social Media Manager
Ways & Means / Assistant Treasurer
All Fields Manager
Fast Pitch Softball Commissioner
Slow Pitch Softball Commissioner
Softball Equipment Manager
Baseball Equipment Manager
Tball - Instructional Baseball Commissioner
Farm - Little League Baseball Commissioner
Pony - Colt Baseball Commissioner
The Board is also looking for someone interested in filling a new position - Events Coordinator. Each year, the league holds events for the kids and for fundraising purposes and we are in need of someone to coordinate and lead these events. Examples include: Picture Day, Golf outing, End of year SALL-abration at Kiwanis, T-mobile Home Run Derby, Pre-season Coach's meeting, Home baseball and softball tournaments. I'm sure there are other events that I am forgetting. Right now, the events are being planned and run by the current Board. And although we feel like these events have been successful in the past, much of the Board is also involved in coaching teams in addition to their other Board duties. It would be nice to have someone lead these events so that we can ensure that we are doing all that we can to make sure that our kids and families stay involved with fun activities to enhance their experience with SALL. We can always do things better and are always looking for new perspectives on how to run our activities.
If you have any interest in getting involved more with the league at one of these positions, please reach out to us. Each year we have turnover and we would be more than happy to mentor anyone so that they may get involved with the league.
Any questions, please reach out to our current Board members.
The fundraiser in the attached file was passed along to us from our neighbors at Hampton Athletic Association. One of their former players started a charity in recent years to help families affected by cancer. That same child Aiden Hanna, has now been diagnosed with cancer. Being a former player for Hampton Athletic Association they are putting together a charity event. All the funds from this event will go directly to helping Aiden and his charity. As parents I know this is one of our worst fears so anything that can be done to help will be appreciated. Full details of all the events to be held on October 2nd are listed in the flyer.
Shaler Area Little League, a non-profit organization, has been helping the youth of Shaler and the surrounding areas to develop sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork and physical well-being throughout baseball and softball for many years.
